Sesame Crackers

Sesame crackers are the perfect snack for any occasion – they are light, crunchy, and flavorful. These snacks are very popular and practical for parties. However, it is advisable to consume them in moderation. To make these snacks more nutritious, consider replacing regular white flour with healthier alternatives such as spelt, buckwheat, or whole wheat.

This simple recipe allows you to make them at home with basic ingredients you likely already have. Homemade sesame crackers are delicious on their own, as a snack with spreads, or as a complement to a creamy soup or salad. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS

Dough

250 g white flour
100 g margarine (cold)
50 ml cold water
1 teaspoon of salt
3 tablespoons of sesame seeds (or more if desired)

DIRECTIONS

Dough

Sift the flour into a large bowl and add the salt. Cut the cold margarine into small pieces and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingers to rub the margarine into the flour until you achieve a crumbly texture.

Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough begins to come together. Ensure the dough is not too crumbly – it should be smooth, pliable, and slightly sticky. If it is too sticky, add a bit more flour.

Wrap the dough in cling film and refrigerate it for 1 hour. Chilling the dough will help the margarine set, making it easier to roll out.

After chilling, roll out the dough on a sheet of baking paper to a thickness of about 2-3 mm. Sprinkle sesame seeds over the dough based on your preference, and lightly press them in with a rolling pin. Use a knife or a decorative cutter to cut the dough into strips, rectangles, squares, or any shape you desire.

Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F). Transfer the baking paper with the prepared crackers onto a baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until they are lightly golden.

The crackers will be the crispiest once they are completely cooled. To preserve their freshness, store them in an airtight container.
